The Residency, Reimagined: Five Weeks, One Satchel, and a Whole New Way to Learn Leather

Let's talk about the Leather Crafting Residency, because we've given it a glow-up.

If you've been following along, you know the Residency has always been our answer to "I want to actually learn this craft, not just admire it from behind glass." What's new for 2027 is how deep that learning goes, and what you walk away with.

Here's the shape of it: five weeks, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 to 2:30, right here in our Charlotte studio. Three cohorts to choose from, January, February, and March, so there's no excuse to wait for "someday."

What sets this apart isn't just the schedule. It's the format. You're not sitting in a lecture watching someone else's hands move. You're working one on one with our team, the same leathersmiths who build every satchel, wallet, and belt that leaves this studio. That means real feedback, real correction, and real time with people who've spent years getting good at this.

And here's the part we're most excited about: this residency treats mistakes as part of the curriculum, not a detour from it. Leather doesn't forgive a rushed stitch or a careless cut, and neither should your first few tries be perfect. We built this environment so you can mess up a rivet, watch us show you why, and try again until your hands understand it, not just your head.

Over the five weeks, you'll work through the fundamentals that actually matter:

  • Our hand stitching method, the backbone of everything we build
  • Setting rivets clean, every time
  • Affixing hardware like buckles with confidence
  • Production methods for small goods, think wallets and cardholders
  • Getting comfortable with the tools of the trade, awls, needles, mallets
  • Monogramming with an arbor press

Then comes the part that makes this Residency worth talking about. At the end of your five weeks, you'll build your own satchel, the same iconic silhouette we're known for, using everything you've learned. And you'll do it for less than half the regular cost of that experience on its own.

You'll leave with a Certification of Completion documenting 50 hours in leather crafting, a satchel you built with your own hands, and skills that don't disappear when the studio doors close behind you. Whether you're a student looking for course credit, a maker wanting to go pro, or someone who just needs to build something real with their hands, this Residency was redesigned with you in mind.

Cohorts are filling for January, February, and March 2027. Come make something that lasts.
